As children get older and become involved in extracurricular activities at school, it may be time to make an appointment for a sports physical. Prior to starting a new school year, your child may need to get a physical so they can participate in sports. This is a good thing, as keeping your child active is a vital part of their development and growth. A physical will likely be required by your child’s school in order for them to participate in sports, but this is also a good opportunity for our provider to check in and make sure they are ready for physical activity.

Sports Physical for Preventive Care

Here at Tots N Teens Pediatrics, your child’s health and overall wellness is our number one priority. This is why we encourage all children, teens, and young adults who will be playing sports to schedule a physical with us today. This can be performed at one of our three locations in Mesquite, Plano, or Forney, Texas. They are good for one year, allowing your child to participate in various sports in different seasons.

Sports physicals aim to detect serious conditions and injuries in young adults prior to them playing sports. Most schools require student-athletes in grades 7-12 to get a physical before the school year.

What to Expect

The physical exam for student-athletes is relatively straightforward. To start, one of our providers will go over your child’s medical history, making note of any current or past conditions. The physical exam itself will include the following:
  • Check their vitals
  • Record height and weight
  • Perform a vision test
  • Evaluate every part of the body, from the heart and other organs to the respiratory system and musculoskeletal system

During the exam, we will make sure your child hasn’t sustained any past injuries that may hinder their ability to participate in sports. We will also check for any new health problems or conditions that may worsen with physical activity.

To schedule an appointment for your child to get a sports physical, please contact one of the three Tots N Teens Pediatrics locations in Mesquite, Plano, or Forney. If you have questions about what to expect or what your child can do to prepare for the exam, please do not hesitate to give us a call. It is our mission to provide our young patients with the care they need to develop and grow into a strong, healthy, and happy adult. If your child is interested in playing sports, a physical is a great way to make sure this is a step in the right direction. Our entire pediatric team has your best interests in mind and will do everything we can in support of your child’s development.
